Statue in Downtown Eugene Memorializes ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ Author Ken Kesey

culture, downtown, ken kesey, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, sometimes a great notion, statue,

One of Eugene’s most famous residents is memorialized in a downtown sculpture.

The Storyteller is in the plaza at the corner of Willamette and Broadway streets, as a way to honor writer Ken Kesey. He authored works such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Sometimes a Great Notion.

The bronze statue shows Kesey reading on a bench to his grandchildren Kate, Caleb and Jordan. The sculpture is designed so that visitors to the plaza can also sit on the bench.

The artist is Peter Helzer, a friend of Kesey’s. The noted author passed away in 2001.
